Twice a year for the past 6 years, we have been proud as parents to see Zach then Hallie sing and dance their hearts out on stage! Zach never seemed to like singing around the house, so when he came home one day in grade 10 and announced he signed up for show choir….we were a little stunned! He was more quiet and never seemed to want to be a ‘on stage’ But he found his niche with the choir. Instead of doing any solo’s, Zach was often given “Specials”. These were character solos if you may,, a special part that usually generated a laugh, or was significant to the song (aka Wise man or driving a sleigh etc)
So you can imagine as parents this was our moment to soak in Zach’s hard work. And it is hard for these kids! they give up Friday afternoons, many evenings to practice and hone their dance moves. Hours and hours of personal time. We were very proud of Zach and his hard work with Showchoir.
So naturally, after Zach graduated it was our assumption that Hallie (who went to grade 10 right aft Zach graduated) would just love to go into show choir. She was a gifted singer who was starting to take voice lessons at the time… but to our surprise, she refused! We struggled with the response, and was taken back by her lack of desire to sign up. As parents I think we wanted to allow her to make her own choices, so she didn’t feel forced to do everything.. but this choice was a big one, and we struggled with it. So luckily we were finally able to compromise with Hallie and convince Hallie to take at least 1 semester of show choir.. try it out, and see if she liked it our not.
Hallie did enjoy her time that year, and for the rest of her high school. I know that these kids are able to make many lasting friendships from joining the Show Choir. It is not about the level of talent on posses that show choir looks for exactly, its about their commitment and hard work while hard work will get them a great grade. All in all, Show Choir is a great program run by great volunteers. I am very grateful to everyone who works hard.
Hallie has gotten better every year, and we just took in her final and last show. It was bittersweet as we love to see her sing and dance. She has worked very hard in her lessons to improve her talent. We love that she has developed this, and its always rewarding as parents to see her perform. But this was her last show.. we will not see her join the show choir again.

Ainsley is a couple years away from High School. So we will eagerly await her time on stage…. I’m quite certain she will carry the banner on… right Ainsley?
